44. This conversation is bigger than freebirth…
I’ve been sitting quietly with everything unfolding over the past few days—not reacting, not rushing to speak, just listening.
First to the Holy Spirit.
Then to my own heart.
When I finished reading the article that’s been circulating, I didn’t feel anger.
I didn’t feel the urge to defend or debate.
What I felt was grief… and clarity.
Because what’s being argued on the surface—
freebirth vs. midwives vs. hospitals—
isn’t really the heartbeat of what’s happening.
This was never truly about birth location.
Somewhere along the way, the conversation shifted from supporting women to protecting a philosophy.
And that’s where harm is born—
not in the choice itself,
but in the pressure to stay loyal to it.
Women are no longer asking,
“Where do I feel peace?” but instead,
“What will people think if I change my mind?”
And suddenly, birth becomes a performance instead of a partnership.
There’s a moment in every woman’s journey where she realizes that birth is not a place or a method—it’s a becoming.
For a long time, I thought the right setting would save me.
I believed if I just changed the location, or the provider, or the plan, then I would finally feel safe… finally feel powerful.
But the deeper I walked with the Lord, the more He revealed a truth that wrecked me in the holiest way:
Power doesn’t come from a place.
It comes from partnership.
Not with a system.
Not with a philosophy.
But with the Holy Spirit—
moment by moment, breath by breath.
Radical responsibility is not becoming self-reliant.
It is becoming God-reliant.
It means we depend on Jesus—depend on His guiding light—and go where the Holy Spirit leads.
Because here is the truth I stand on:
I do not trust birth.
I trust God.
I respect birth.
And if Yahweh is impressing a decision with a sound mind on a woman’s heart, we are called to listen to that quiet knowing—that discernment.
He is a lamp unto our feet, and He will guide each step, each decision.
And I need to say this clearly:
I do not believe freebirth is for every woman.
I do not believe homebirth is for every woman.
And I do not believe hospital birth is for every woman.
Women must birth where they feel safest.
When we cling to an identity—
“I’m a freebirther,”
“I only birth at home,”
“hospital is the safest place”—
we risk turning something sacred into an idol.
God never asked us to worship a model of care.
He asked us to worship Him.
Because the problem isn’t traditional midwives,
licensed midwives,
birthkeepers,
or doulas.
The problem is when a woman goes against her intuition to make a decision that feels acceptable to others—even when the Holy Spirit is leading her somewhere else.
There is no single righteous path.
There is only obedience.
And obedience looks different for every woman,
every birth,
every moment.
For some, the holiest path is a birth pool by candlelight.
For others, it’s a quiet hospital room with a redeemed experience.
For others still, it’s a planned cesarean covered in prayer and peace.
The victory is not in how you birth—
it’s in who you are partnered with.
Because a woman who hears God in her birth will hear Him for the rest of her motherhood.
And that changes everything.
Psalm 119:105 says,
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
A lamp doesn’t show the whole road.
It shows one step.
Radical responsibility isn’t choosing once and clinging to it at all costs.
It is choosing with Him—again and again and again.
Not from fear.
Not from pressure.
Not from loyalty to a plan…
…but from partnership with the Holy Spirit.
This is the ground I stand on
